KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — A missile strike on the Russian city of Belgorod near the Ukraine border on Thursday killed six people, including a child, and injured 18 others, a Russian official said. It was the latest in exchanges of long-range missile and rocket fire in Russia's war on Ukraine. Five of the 18 people injured in Belgorod, a city of around 340,000 people, were children, regional Gov. Dozens of people were killed and injured in an attack there over Russia’s New Year holiday weekend. DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Yemen's Houthi rebels for the first time Tuesday claimed missile and drone attacks targeting Israel, drawing their main sponsor Iran closer into the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip and further raising the risks of a regional conflict erupting. There also has been at least one attack that the Houthis claimed where suspicion later fell fully on Iran. In 2019, cruise missiles and drones successfully penetrated Saudi Arabia and struck the heart of its oil industry in Abqaiq. Nonfarm payrolls increased by 187,000 jobs in August, against expectations of 170,000 additions, according to a Reuters poll of economists. Data for July was revised to show 157,000 job additions instead of the 187,000 additions reported before. The payrolls report follows recent data showing a fall in job openings and softer-than-expected private employment growth, both of which signaled weakness in the labor market. Broadcom (AVGO.O) fell 4.5% as the chipmaker projected current-quarter revenue below expectations on softening enterprise demand.

Disney pulled ESPN, ABC and other cable channels off Spectrum, which serves giant markets like New York and Los Angeles, in the middle of U.S. Open tennis coverage. Charter flashed a message on screen that urged viewers to contact Disney. Charter serves more than 32 million customers in 41 states through its Spectrum brand, according to its website. Without a resolution, Charter customers will not have access to other live sporting events including college football, which just kicked off its season.

WASHINGTON, July 7 (Reuters) - Acting U.S. Labor Secretary Julie Su said on Friday she does not see a need at this stage to step in to urge parties to reach a deal in contract talks between the Teamsters Union and United Parcel Service (UPS.N). "That is right," Su said on CNN when asked if she felt there was no need for her to intervene at this stage. On Wednesday, the Teamsters said UPS "walked away" from negotiations over a new contract. If talks break down, UPS workers have already authorized a strike that would be their first since 1997. Su recently helped negotiate a crucial contract deal between U.S. West Coast seaport employers and a union representing 22,000 workers.

The Teamsters Union said on Wednesday United Parcel Service "walked away" from negotiations over a new contract, a claim the shipping giant denied, lobbing its own accusation that the union had stopped negotiating. The union had earlier in the day said UPS made an offer that was unanimously rejected and that the company had "walked away from the bargaining table."
